Continuing Professional Development is a requirement of the Dental Council of New Zealand for the renewal of an Annual Practicing Certificate.
It’s also an opportunity to reflect, learn and share specific knowledge about the practice of dentistry.
We have been working with the Dental Council and CPD Committee to improve the CPD application process. Applications need to demonstrate that the proposed training has a training session plan with identifiable learning outcomes. Each application needs to identify which of the Professional Standards or Practice Standards for Oral Health Practitioners are being addressed by the training session. More information about the Dental Council Standards can be found here.
The current CPD cycle is 2 years (1 January 2018 to 31 December 2019) during which 30 verifiable hours must be completed along with 4 hours of peer contact sessions. The Dental Council Policy on Continuing Professional Development activities outlines the criteria for verifiable CPD and peer contact activities. View the policy here.
NZ Dental & Oral Health Therapists Association is an approver and provider of CPD activities
We support members with activities intended to broaden skills and knowledge, encourage reflective practice, improve personal qualities and experiences, enhance professionalism, and optimise patient outcomes.
Participants to NZDOHTA events will receive an electronic satisfaction survey after the event. This survey is a requirement for CPD verification.
